Vintage Mexican 22 Karat Gold Coin Pendant With Three 1945 2 1/2 Pesos Coins

A rare find! Three Mexican 1945 2 1/2 pesos gold coins in one amazing pendant. The three coins are joined together and attached to the brilliant, hammered 14 karat yellow gold three lobed surround with bail.

The Mexican gold two and one half pesos coins were minted in Mexico City at Casa de Moneda de Mexico, North America's oldest mint. They often found their way into jewelry because of their small size.

The obverse of the coin depicts a bust of Miguel Hidalgo with DOS Y MEDIO to the left and PESOS 1945 to the right. Miguel Hildalgo (1753-1811) was a priest and leader in the Mexican War of Independence from Spain. He is hailed as the Father of the Nation even though it was Agustin de Iturbide who finally achieved Mexican Independence in 1821. Hildalgo's Grito, his famous battle against the Spanish on September 16, 1810, became the official Mexican day of independence, He has become an icon for Mexicans and now every year on the night of the 15–16 of September the president of Mexico re-enacts the Grito from the balcony of the National Palace, as do the heads of cities and towns all over Mexico.

The reverse of the coin shows the Mexican Coat of Arms, an eagle perched on a cactus clutching a serpent in its beak with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above the eagle.

The trefoil surround is stamped "14K" and tested as 14 karat gold. The gold pesos are 22 karat gold.

The pendant measures 4.8 cm. x 4.2 cm. with the attached bail and it weighs 10.1 grams. It is in excellent vintage condition.
